Morningside

Fulton and Dekalb County | 30324, 30306

Developed in 1923, Morningside was once farmland that was eventually transformed into vibrant residential neighborhoods with churches, shops, post offices and access to the train which used to stop at what is now Ansley Mall. With the onset of the automobile, more workers would choose to live in communities such as Morningside and commute into downtown, affording them larger plots of land in beautiful natural surroundings without sacrificing convenience. Located adjacent to Midtown, Ansley Mall, and Buckhead, this neighborhood continues to be an accessible and desirable place to live.

The homes in Morningside were developed from the 1920s until the 1960s when the potential of a highway development stalled construction in the area. Neighbors rallied together to prevent the highway from being built which allowed for development and construction to resume. Today many family homes are being replaced with larger houses to accommodate growing families and changing needs. Morningside boasts several parks and greenspaces designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, a number of walking trails, and highly sought-after schools. On the east side of Morningside, near the border of Virginia Highlands, a quaint retail district includes Alon’s Bakery, the Family Dog, Nowak’s Steak, and Casseroles.
