A long, lifeless warehouse space that faces the Beltline’s Eastside Trail is about to get activated in a very merry way, officials announced today.
In the Ralph McGill Boulevard space next to Two Urban Licks, Third & Urban and partners Trillium Management are planning an 85,000-square-foot development with eating and especially drinking in mind.
The developers have inked a lease with former Stone Brewing brewmaster Mitch Steele, along with partners Carey Falcone and Bob Powers, to take a 20,000-square-foot craft brewery and artisanal kitchen slot.
The space will boast a Beltline-facing biergarten and rooftop bar. Cheers to that.
In a smaller, 7,000-square-foot space next door, expect a Latin-inspired brasserie “complemented by a selection of merchants offering high-quality food and non-food products” by hospitality group The Diligence Company, officials said.
Two Urban Licks isn’t going anywhere, and developers said they’re actively marketing the remaining space — 23,000 square feet — for retail, office, or entertainment use.
The building was formerly home to Western Electric.
Here’s the big idea, in the developer’s words:
“The project features 600 linear feet of frontage on the Beltline and lies directly across the Beltline from the lively, Historic Fourth Ward Park. Architecture firm ai3 is leading design for the building, which will embrace the Beltline through a porous, welcoming façade and an inviting park space. Visitors will be encouraged to linger and relax, with the ability to experience multiple entertainment and food options under one roof.”
Construction will begin in February, with delivery expected next summer.
